Senior Pilot/Chief Pilot

Waste Connections Inc. has an immediate opening for Senior Pilot/Chief Pilotto join our Aviation team in Houston, TX at George Bush International Airport. The Chief Pilot is responsible for the oversight of flight personnel, flight standards, ensuring the company aircraft is operated in accordance with regulatory requirements and that all operational related safety management goals are met.

The Chief Pilot reports to the Flight Department Manager and is responsible to develop and ensure professional standards of the flight crews under his/her authority and that operations and training safety management goals are met.


  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business, Management, Aeronautics or Engineering or has equivalent compensatory experience

  • Military, Airline, FAA, or Flight school training in high performance aircraft

  • Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate in airplanes

  • Minimum 2 years experience as line Captain in large, multi-engine aircraft operations

  • Demonstrates knowledge with respect to the operation of a flight department, the content of the Company Flight Department Manuals, and the provision of the regulations and the standards necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Preferably holder of a Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) certificate.

  • Must hold a valid FCC radiotelephone operators license for International flights.

  • Must hold a valid FAA First Class medical certificate

  • Must hold a valid US Passport

  • Must have logged at least 3500 hours total flight time in airplanes

  • Must have logged at least 2000 hours Pilot in Command flight time

  • Must have logged at least 2000 hours multi jet flight time

  • EFIS/EICAS/FMS experience required

  • Falcon 2000 a proline 21 experience desired

  • BAO experience desired

    Duties, Responsibilities, and Authority:

  • Flies company aircraft as Captain/PIC and First Officer/SIC.

  • Flight Operations Management

  • Exercise Company Operational Control when delegated by the Flight Department Manager

  • Developing standard operating procedures meeting all regulatory guidance;

  • Controlling operational policies and standards of all aircraft operated;

  • Developing and implementing all required approved training programs for flight crews;

  • Ensuring that all airports and routes served by Waste Connections are operationally suitable and meet company requirements

  • Taking action on and distributing accident, incident, and other occurrence reports

  • Processing and taking action on any flight crew reports

  • Prepares monthly activity report

  • Maintain a current aircraft and operations library.

  • Maintain and post all pertinent and current navigation publications and databases.

  • Issuing directives and notices to the flight crews as required;

  • Disseminating information pertaining to flights and Company policies.

  • Receiving and taking action with respect to any aeronautical information affecting the safety of flight;

  • Flight scheduling to include FBO notification, fuel arrangements, catering needs as needed

  • Maintain FAA required aircraft equipment and supplies.

  • Responsible for the safety of the flight department activities within his/her authority and to report any observed safety hazards.

  • Participation in the Safety Management System (SMS) process and completion of any required SMS documentation to include Hazard/Event Reports and Flight Risk Analyses (FRAT).

  • Personnel, Training and Qualifications Management

  • The morale and well being of the flight personnel;

  • Supervising aircraft crews;

  • Ensuring that flight crew training, qualifications, recency of experience requirements are met and that associated records are maintained;

  • Ensuring compliance with crew scheduling and flight and duty time limitations;

  • Scheduling required flight crewmember training

  • Conduct initial screening and qualification of pilots for employment

  • Ensuring that all crew members are kept informed of any changes to the regulations and operating standards.


  • Must live in or be willing to re-locate within one hour driving time of Houston Intercontinental Airport

  • Must be available for after hours, weekends, and holiday work
