Summary of Role     

GLOBALFOUNDRIES is seeking a TCAD (Technology Computer Aided Design) engineer to work on the research and development of 14/7nm and beyond technologies. TCAD engineers work very closely with device design, process integration, and other key module engineers associated with these advanced nodes.  A primary set of responsibilities includes developing, and maintaining physically predictive simulation decks for the 14/7nm and beyond technologies. Other key responsibilities include utilization of these decks to both define optimal design of experiments (DOE) process splits for performance improvement and to analyze and deal with other device and process related issues.  Also important is to use device physics knowledge and TCAD simulation to define and evaluate major device options, including novel ones. There is a heavy emphasis on semiconductor device physics and material properties.

Candidate will design FinFET for silicon and SiGe based technology at scaled geometries in TCAD framework.  Develops realistic device structures in TCAD process and device simulators using traditional materials (Si, SiGe, Ge) and properties of HKMG, Low-k spacers and MOL contacts.  Extracts device DC, AC parameters from TCAD simulations and performs trade-off analysis on scaled transistors.   Develops methods to incorporate channel stress, low resistive contacts and low capacitance device structures suitable at scaled geometries

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop, calibrate, deploy, and maintain physically predictive simulation decks for 14/7nm and beyond technologies.
  • Utilize TCAD simulations to both define optimal design of experiments (DOE) process splits, and to diagnose and find solutions for process and process integration problems.
  • While working closely with device and process engineers, utilize in-depth device physics and TCAD simulations to analyze and solve various process/device/reliability/variability related issues.
  • While working closely with device and process engineers, utilize in-depth device physics and TCAD simulations to define and evaluate feasibility and potential performance of major device options, including novel device design/process integration concepts.
  • Report progress & results and document software & deck development activity in a clear, concise manner.

Required Qualifications        

  • MS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or Solid State Physics or related degree; with 7 years of experience in TCAD modeling and simulation of semiconductor devices is essential or related experience
  • Language Fluency - Fluent in English Language - written & verbal
  • Ability to relocate to Malta, NY

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Solid State Physics or other relevant engineering or physical science discipline; 5 years of relevant TCAD and/or Semiconductor device physics. Experience in semiconductor process integration engineering or related experience
  • Experience in CMOS and/or bipolar based semiconductor technologies are required. A comprehensive knowledge of modern device physics (FinFET & BJT device, bulk & SOI device structures).
  • Solid understanding on device scaling challenges, electronic band structure, device electrostatics, carrier transport mechanisms including quantum confinement and quantum transport
  • Proficiency and Hands-on experience in TCAD modeling of semiconductor devices is must
  • Proficiency w/Simulation tools: Familiarity with Synopsys process (SProcess), device simulation (SDevice) and S-Interconnect tools and environments.
  • Teamwork: The ability to effectively work with colleagues, clients, partners, and commercial TCAD tool vendors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, energetic, motivated, and self-driven
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a global matrixed team or environment with minimal supervision
  • Outstanding communication skills - both written and verbal is required. Also, proven ability to deliver succinct, clear technical presentations, and to handle questions, comments, etc., well
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization and experience in working with external constituencies
  • Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments
